Bright Futures’ students recently received an exclusive tour of the Weld County Department of Human Services and the Weld County Department of Public Health.
Bright Futures not only provides students with tuition assistance, but also many opportunities for networking, career exploration and internships.
Carol Salter, Workforce Director for Weld County, spoke with students about the wide range of services under the umbrella of the Department of Human Services including the workforce center, fraud investigation, background checks and employment services.
“It is important we take care of people’s basic needs,” Salter explained. “There is so much care and concern that goes into this building.”
During the visit, students toured several departments and learned about internship and career opportunities. Many of the students are pursuing degrees in human service, while others were excited to explore a variety of career paths available in Weld County.
At the Department of Public Health, students toured the laboratory that tests most of the state’s drinking water and learned about the department’s public outreach and education efforts.
Bright Futures hosts monthly site visits throughout Weld County help students connect their education to real-world experiences and increase career awareness before entering the workforce. Creating a more prepared workforce helps the Weld County economy in the long run.
