Brig Hartson of Johnstown heard about Bright Futures through his high school counselors and through friends who had already applied.
“I decided to apply for Bright Futures because it aligned perfectly with my values,” he said in an email to Bright Futures. “I’ve always believed in giving back to the community, and the scholarship’s emphasis on service gave me the motivation—and the support—to continue volunteering throughout college.”
All Bright Futures students are required to complete 12 hours of community service annually within Weld County.
Brig played football at Colorado State University and graduated with a business degree and a concentration in corporate finance, which he says gave him strong foundations in financial analysis, strategic planning and decision-making.
“Bright Futures played a huge role in helping me stay focused on my studies while staying involved in my community,” he said. “By easing some of the financial burden of college, it allowed me to dedicate time to both academics and community service without needing to take on additional part-time work.”
Brig hopes to combine his passion for sports and his business background to build a career at Under Armour.
“Playing football at CSU gave me firsthand insight into the sports industry, and I’d love to be part of a company that’s pushing the limits of performance and innovation for athletes around the world,” Brig said.
