The 2026/2027 Bright Futures Application is now open!

September 2025 Student Spotlight: Kelani Kephart

Kelani Kephart was at Windsor Charter Academy when she heard about the Bright Futures scholarship. Now, a junior at Colorado State University, she has taken full advantage of the scholarship and the opportunities it brings – including a 6-week paid internship.

“The scholarship has helped a lot,” Kephart said. “But I also get emailed a lot of opportunities like jobs, volunteer work and internships through Bright Futures. That is how I applied for the Pivot Energy internship.”

Pivot Energy is a national solar energy provider that has been a large donor to the Bright Futures program in the past. This year, they took applications exclusively from Bright Futures students for a 6-week paid internship program.

Kephart is majoring in civil engineering and has thought about a career in sustainable energy field. Now that she has been able to see what the solar world is about, she likes what she sees. As part of the internship program, she was assigned an engineering team mentor. Kephart said having the support of her mentor has been great.

“I’ve had a lot of opportunity to assist in projects, and it’s helped me feel involved and accomplished,” Kephart said. “This opportunity would not have been possible without Bright Futures. I’m very thankful it.”

The application will be available in January. Please check back.
