A Greeley native whose family is from Mexico, Emily Vega attended Greeley West High School where she learned about the Bright Futures scholarship through the AVID program she was involved with. As a Bright Futures scholar, Emily attended UNC and recently graduated with a degree in Business Marketing/Digital Marketing. Being a first-generation college student, Emily is passionate about encouraging, advocating for, and assisting other students like herself. She now works for the Pathways to Possible program at Metro State University where she gets to do just that.
“Ask for help. Step out of your comfort zone. Get involved,” …that is Emily’s advice for younger students who may be experiencing challenges in their education journey. She hopes these words and her hard work through school are also motivating to her younger brother, as her family is her greatest inspiration.
Emily’s post-secondary education was aided by a Bright Futures scholarship. “Bright Futures broke that financial barrier. Without scholarships, I wouldn’t have been able to go to school,” she said.
Emily hopes to pursue a master’s degree in higher education and dreams of one day paying it forward by starting a foundation to provide scholarships. “It would be my way of saying thank you.”
