Kylie Anderson is finishing her last semester of nursing school at UNC, and after completing her practicum this summer she hopes to find a job as a Labor and Delivery nurse. Although it’s a difficult specialty to break into as a new grad, she hopes to stay close to home and family. “I’d love to stay in Weld County!” she said. And she’s making every effort to do so. Kylie currently works as a patient care assistant (PCA) at North Colorado Medical Center and is applying to do her practicum locally as well.
Kylie heard about the Bright Futures scholarship while attending Windsor High School. After graduation, she quickly looked into the opportunity and has been receiving the scholarship each year at UNC. She said the scholarship money she’s received (from Bright Futures and the UNC Foundation) has made a significant impact on her school experience. “My academic career would’ve looked a lot different after high school without it. I don’t know if I would’ve been able to go to UNC,” she said.
Kylie would encourage other students to seek out opportunities—like Bright Futures—in their community. While it may be overwhelming at first, “there are quite a few opportunities available, if you look for them,” she said.
