July 2024 Student Spotlight: Giselle Sixtos

giselle sixtos

Drawing motivation from her parents, Giselle Sixtos has overcome obstacles, recently graduated at the top of her Fort Lupton High School class (school district RE-8) and is on her way to becoming a first-generation college student at CSU in the fall.  Giselle said her parents’ support and their desire for her to have more education and opportunities than they’ve had have pushed her to succeed…and succeed she has.  Giselle was involved in numerous activities in high school, including AVID, National Honor Society, Upward Bound and Spanish Club.  She also found time to volunteer at the local preschool, take classes at Aims, and work full-time as an assistant manager at Panda Express, all while excelling in the classroom.

A Bright Futures scholarship, among other awards, will allow Giselle to obtain further education at CSU, where she plans to study early childhood education or social work, and hopes to study abroad.  “That assistance will make the financial aspect of college so much easier.  I come from a very low-income family and that just lifts a burden,” she said.

Growing up Giselle overcame challenges and took on extra responsibilities outside of school—all in pursuit of a better future for herself.   She said, “I think of this quote a lot—At the end of every storm is a rainbow.”  The future certainly looks bright for this Weld County student.

The application will be available in January. Please check back.
