Dylan Roseman knew the 12 hours of community service required for Bright Futures would not be a challenge. He had already completed hundreds of volunteer hours through Boy Scouts and was happy to serve a few more.
“I am really service oriented,” Roseman said. “I felt like I learned a lot about myself volunteering. Volunteering was also a chance to take a break from the college world, that was really nice.”
Roseman graduated from Early College Academy in Greeley with his associate degree. He took those credits to the University of Northern Colorado, where he graduated in two and a half years with a degree in health sciences and an emphasis in healthcare administration.
“When I was looking at colleges, I picked my program because nowhere else did half health, half business. I wanted a people centric job; I stayed an extra semester to get my human resources certificate. What is more people centric than HR?”
Roseman turned his Bright Futures volunteer requirement into a networking opportunity by completing service hours at Greeley Hospital at UCHealth. “That helped me get in touch with people who are part of my current job,” Roseman said. “I couldn’t be more excited!” He is now the Patient Access Registration Specialist at UCHealth.
Reflecting on his time at UNC as a Bright Futures recipient, Roseman said the wraparound support impacted his educational journey just as much as the tuition assistance and volunteering opportunities.
“Bright Futures was truly a great pillar of support,” Roseman said. “Having their scholar relations officer check in and see if there was anything I needed – it was monumental to have that additional support outside of UNC. They tailored resources specifically for me to help me reach my goals.”
