Taking college courses during high school helped Megan Freeman get a jump start on her post-secondary education. After graduating from Frontier High School in 2022, with a full year of college credit to her name, Megan continued classes at Aims before transferring to UNC. Although she hadn’t determined a definite career direction, she decided to declare Human Services as her major—and she’s so glad she did!
“It ended up being the best thing I could have chosen for myself, and I know that I’m in the right field and that I chose correctly,” she said. She has since added Psychology as a second major and will be graduating from UNC in May.
After graduation, Megan plans to work in the field of human services for a while and then hopes to obtain a master’s degree in social work or counseling. She would love to work with the aging population but is open to whatever career opportunities may present themselves. “I want to learn as much as I can and then help people with that knowledge.”
Bright Futures helped Megan get through school debt-free and allowed her to focus on school without added financial stress. “I’m proud to say that I’m graduating with a 4-year degree in 3 years, and also debt-free, and that would not have been possible without the help of Bright Futures,” said Megan.
For students who may be experiencing a challenge in their educational journey, Megan encourages them to stick with it. “Be passionate about what you want to do and love what you’re learning, and it will all be worth it!”
