Antonio Sarabia is a student at Aims interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. When presented with an opportunity to tour the Greeley Police Department and visit with detective Mark Stumpf, Antonio jumped on it. “I got to see how daily life and business works at the GPD, as well as being a police officer. I won’t forget what Mark did for me and how GPD went out of their way to guide a future law enforcement officer,” Antonio said.
In addition to the financial stipend, another benefit of being a Bright Futures scholar is making connections with businesses and industry leaders. This experience certainly bolstered Antonio’s excitement about his future career. “I picture myself later down the road working in that type of environment and I can proudly say I am looking forward to it,” he said.
Scholar Relations Officer for Bright Futures Andy Yost enjoys connecting Bright Futures students with opportunities that may assist them in a future career. Andy helped Antonio get connected with an internship and he’ll be a Criminal Justice Community Corrections Specialist intern—giving him further exposure to a potential future career. “I love seeing students find their niche in their career field. When students can see themselves in the career field that they are pursuing it increases their motivation to succeed in their education/training program to achieve that goal. Industry connections are so important for students so they can explore careers and determine when they have found their perfect fit,” Andy said.
